Special notes

IMPORTANT: This summer we are transitioning to a new library system. You will not be able to search for PRINT resources between June 30 and July 31. (All electronic databases stay the same and will still be accessible.)

This also means that any links in this website that point to books will not work until after July 31.

If you need something during this transition, please talk to Andrea or Sarah, and we can help you find it on the shelf!

  • If you are taking an online class this summer, you can contact librarians for help via email or phone! The address will reach BOTH of us, so you don't have to worry about missing someone on vacation.
  • New in town? Check out our Guide to Area Attractions!
  • Please allow pop-ups from this page so that our links will work.

Visit us on Facebook for up-to-date annoucements, cool links, and more!

SVC Library

Library 101

Who are we?

Sarah Sanfilippo: Library Director  Contact me for purchasing suggestions, library policies, library instruction, research help, library work study opportunities.

Andrea Robare: Reference Librarian  Contact me for research guidance, database assistance, interlibrary loan, library instruction.

When are we here?  Sarah and Andrea are in the Library between 8 AM and 5 PM Monday through Friday. Stop in and see us, or make an appointment if you want to make sure we're here when you come. The Library is also open at night and on weekends, and staffed by students when we're not here. For our current hours, see the Hours tab at the top of the page.

Why are we here? Andrea and Sarah are here to guide you through using all the resources available to you through SVC's library and on the Internet. We don't expect you to be expert researchers the first time you sit down and start a paper. We don't even expect seniors to know everything! Even we as librarians are constantly learning new skills. We can help you get started, or help you expand or narrow your research. We can even point you to resources that will help you narrow or expand on a topic.

The SVC Library collection can provide you with print books and journals, as well as a great number of electronic resources. We can help you find material from other colleges as well. We can also help you find books to read for fun. If you want assistance with ANY kind of searching, please come see us.

If you have ideas about what we should be buying, please let us know!

Your library account

Yes, you have a library account! You can look on our web site to:

  • See what books you have checked out
  • See your due dates
  • Renew items
  • Place holds on checked-out books so you can borrow them next

Your login is the same as your SVC email and computer login. If for some reason it doesn't work, please come see a librarian and we can re-set it for you.

Textbooks in the Library

Thanks to the Meder Discovery Fund, we are able to purchase most textbooks for use inside the library.

Now you don't have to lug around that huge Med-Surg book - just come read in the library in between classes! Check the list below to see what we have this semester.

If you don't have time to stay in the library, you can make copies or scan on our copier/printer.
