Welcome to the SVC Library!

One-stop shopping for library basics.

The basics

Interlibrary loan (or ILL) is the system we use to find resources for you that we can't provide in the SVC Library. We can borrow books, journal articles, and sometimes even videos and other items. We have access to materials from academic and public library collections throughout the state of Vermont and beyond.

Through the Vermont Consortium of Academic Libraries (VCAL) faculty have walk-in access to academic libraries around the state of Vermont. Please see here or contact a librarian for more information and to obtain a VCAL borrower card. If you are a faculty member from another institution and would like to borrow from us, please see lending policies on this page.

How long can I keep 'em?

Articles are yours to keep. Please keep the following in mind when requesting books early in the semester:

  • How long will you need the book(s)? Loans from libraries other than SVC are usually only 3-4 weeks long, with perhaps one renewal (depends on the lending library). You won't be able to keep them all semester.
  • If your paper/project is not due until the end of the semester, you might want to wait a little while before requesting ILL books.
  • If your paper/project is due in the beginning or middle of the semester, then you should request it as soon as you can.

Please remember we're here to help you in any way we can.  If there's an issue with Interlibrary loan materials come see us so it can be worked out.

Visit area libraries in person

SVC has agreements with a few other libraries in the area that allow you to visit in person and take up to five books from each place.

If you would like to visit one of these libraries, talk to an SVC librarian. You need one of our permission slips before you go! We can also help you find out if they have what you want before you get there.

Use the links below to take a look at their catalogs.
